If you want to know a little more about what's in a glaze and why, then this class is for you. This 2 ½ -hour long class will cover basic information about the components of Old Town Pottery's glazes and how they make the glaze 'fit' on the clay body. Glaze terms frequently used in ceramic publications will be covered as well as how simple glazes are formulated. This 'snapshot'

Class Description:
What is your favorite beverage? A milkshake glass? Water or tea? Coke-a–cola style? Wine? Makes no mind. We will take translucent polymer clay, rubber stamps, alcohol inks (no! not the kind to drink), and create some dynamic “clay fabric sheets” in which to cut out our designs, like leaves, to embellish your glass with. You will never have to drink from a boring glass ever again with your one- of – a- kind drinking vessel!

Wine and Cheese Reception, Art Show and Wet-Paint Sale, 3:30 pm

Plein Air artists paint outdoors, working quickly to capture the light and complete their work in one day. The public is invited to come to this event to enjoy a glass of wine, stroll the grounds, and watch the artists paint.

There will be a wine and cheese reception, art show and wet-paint sale of the work created that day beginning at 3:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Wine is available for purchase.

Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 10:00am - 1:30pm

This 2 ½ -hour long class will cover glaze application by dipping and pouring. Do your finished pots turn out looking very different even when you've glazed them with the same glaze? This hands-on class will focus on learning how to apply glazes for more consistently successful results. This is the second of a 2-part series on glazes and glazing. While it will be helpful to understand the material presented in the first class, this second class is designed as a stand-alone class. Bring 3 to 5 clean, bisqued, waxed pots to class.

Kids CRE8! Saturdays is a youth arts program for kids 7-12. CRE8! students will explore a variety of mediums throughout the program such as drawing, painting, fiber arts, basketry, pottery, and traditional arts.

CRE8! Saturdays will have 2 sessions on Saturday, June 22 and Saturday, July 13, 10-4. You sign up for each individually for $15 each day.

Registration will begin later in May once we have finalized the details. Once registration is open, please call us at (276) 236-3500 or stop by the school to register in person.

Class Description:
Aluminum and copper earrings will be cut and designed using embossing techniques. Various methods of decorating and coloring the earrings will be taught including flame work techniques and copper, paint, and multi-media embellishment techniques. Students will have the materials to produce at least 10 pairs of custom-made earrings.
Materials to bring: Sketch book or drawing pad.

Beautiful couture hats can be yours for the making! In this class you will learn to create cut-and-sew soft style hats, or you may choose to learn fascinator construction (ever wondered how in the world they stay on?!) Learn tricks of the millinery trade, shortcuts and uncommon use of materials such as found objects, vintage pieces, sticks, cloth pins, wire, etc. You will also learn to make hat decoration pieces, such as flowers and hat pins.

Skill level: all levels, although basic sewing machine knowledge would be helpful.

Class Description:
The best of two dynamic artists in one class! Lara and Nell will split this class, each teaching a half day. Lara will work with students in advanced wire wrapping techniques and other hand made styles of jewelry creation, like cabochon settings, while Nell will demonstrate forming and soldering metal to complement wire wrapping and glass beads. Previous wire wrapping jewelry or other jewelry classes is a prerequisite for this class.
