Opportunities to Learn
Myriad learning opportunities abound in Southwest Virginia. Whether you want to learn from a master craftsman in the studio, from the operator of an agricultural business, or in a classroom setting, there’s something here for everyone. You’ll also find workshops coordinated by ’Round the Mountain, designed with artisans in mind, and hosted throughout the 19-county region.
In the Studio

Many artisans let their passion for their craft carry over into teaching. These masters of technique are happy to teach you how to weave a basket, throw a pot, or blow glass. Contact individual artisans to discover where you might learn directly from them, perhaps even in their studio!
In the Classroom

Throughout Southwest Virginia, opportunities abound to learn about craft. Many craft venues offer workshops, special exhibits, classroom instruction and other learning experiences. Qualified professionals can help you discover your inner artisan at galleries, shops, museums, and at local colleges.
On the Farm

Sometimes the best way to learn is in the field— literally. Visit a working farm, an herb garden, or other agritourism business for a hands-on approach to learning.
