COMMUNITIES: Bland County

Bland County, named for the prominent Virginia patriot, Richard Bland, is situated on the edge of the southwest portion of the Great Valley of Virginia and borders southern West Virginia. Formed in 1861, the county's area is 369 square miles with nearly 78 percent of the county's total area being wooded and approximately 32 percent of the mountainous portions in the Jefferson National Forest.

Bland County's beautiful mountains, sparkling streams, and intertwining trails allows the avid outdoorsmen as well as the day hiker to enjoy the serenity of our mountainous setting. The Appalachian Trail and the Jefferson National Forest provides spectacular vistas of mountain scenery for all to enjoy.

Bland County Hiking Trails

The Chestnut Knob Trail is a nine-mile round trip that ascends to just over 4,400 feet. Located near Ceres, the trail skirts the Bland County/Tazewell County border and meanders through woods and grassy clearings before reaching a diminutive rock shelter at the top.

Little Wolf Creek Trail is a streamside walk up into a secluded valley. You begin this relatively short and easy seven-mile loop by crossing a rustic masterpiece of a footbridge over the cascading water of Laurel Creek on the Appalachian Trail.

Located off the Bastian exit of Interstate 77, the Wolf Creek Picnic Area features a variety of rustic tables and modern grills. The nearby Wolf Creek Trail loop offers hikers three options as they wind their way 1.7 miles up Round Mountain.

Golf

Located next to the Jefferson National Forest, Wolf Creek Golf and Country Club offers a beautifully scenic 18 hole golf experience. Located just 5 miles from the Bastian exit off of Interstate 77, makes it effortless to experience the breathtaking views and the exceptional playing surface.
