Classy Glass Kay Cook 2 Pine Tree Lane Radford, VA 24141 540-639-0581
I got hooked on glass as a medium three years ago after taking my first jewelry class. I love doing things that use a kiln, it is always like Christmas when you open them up. At least three layers of hand cut glass are carefully designed and placed in a kiln. It is then fired to 1500 degrees, slowly cooled to anneal properly, then reshaped if necessary and fire polished. I am finding glass a fascinating medium especially the dichroic, I always look for something new that someone will enjoy. |

I am interested in creative art-making as a process. I believe that we all have an innate need to create and that creative expression (which can take many forms) is essential to our health and wellness. I am particularly interested in the process of mandala making and for the past seven years have been exploring the use of personal mandalas in my own life and well as with others. More recently, I have become interested in the re-purposing of books as a creative endeavor. |

Being a musical instrument maker challenges me to use my body, mind & spirit. My love of history helps me understand the roots of folk music. Theology, 20 years a Lutheran pastor, enables me to integrate music in a spiritual sense. Each instrument is one-of-a-kind and individually handmade. I choose a variety of woods, match them to the best advantage for both aesthetics & sound. Therefore, the size & shape may be similar but each in a unique work of love & art from the beginning to the end. |

A love of woodworking that developed while I was teaching has evolved into a retirement occupation focused on turning ornaments, boxes, bowls, and platters. Learning the correct use of tools and determining the best sequence of steps to produce a completed box or bowl with beautiful grain displayed is a fascinating journey and I enjoy sharing the ride. I am a woodturning instructor at John C Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC. |

All my life, I have had a need to create by sketching the small dramas being played out in nature. In painting the subjects that I am familiar with from growing up in the rural mountains of Southwest Virginia, I have diligently developed my own style which I feel is still evolving and growing. I feel that the past intermingles with the present and influences the future. The vignettes of everyday life are nostalgic reminders of where we came from and hints of where we are going.

My pots are thrown on a wheel and meant to find their way into kitchens and the everyday rich texture of a life well lived. |
